These striped fish get their name from the sheep like teeth that fill small mouths. These strange dentures are perfect for crushing the crustaceans that make up almost all of the Sheepshead diet. One of the more difficult fish to fool on a fly, a Sheepshead is a welcome challenge for any fly angler.

Best Tide: Last of the incoming flood and High tide. Water Temps. 60s-70s degree range
Best Time: Late Summer through Fall season
Best Fly Rod: 6wt. – 7wt.
Best Fly: Fiddler Crab, spoon fly
Best Fly Line: Floating
Best Leader: 7’–9’ long with min. 15 lb. Fluorocarbon tippet
Where: Tailing on the flooded grass flats
Method: Sight fished with slow retrieve
